CONDITIONS WE TREAT

Anxiety, untangled.

Persistent worry, panic, or restlessness that interferes with daily life. Calm, evidence-informed care that treats anxiety without minimizing it.
WHAT THIS LOOKS LIKE

Anxiety is more than worry.

Anxiety in a clinical sense is not the same as feeling nervous before a presentation or worrying about a sick parent. It is a persistent, often physical state that shows up when there is no clear threat, lingers when there should be relief, and gradually narrows the size of your life around what feels safe.

It is also the most common mental health concern in the United States, and one of the most treatable. The reason it goes untreated for so long is rarely a lack of options. It is that anxiety, when severe, makes the work of seeking help feel like one more thing to be anxious about.

At LumenMind, we take that paradox seriously. The first conversation is structured to be low-pressure, and our goal in the early weeks is to help you feel steady enough to participate fully in your own care.

SIGNS YOU MIGHT RECOGNIZE

  • Persistent worry that is hard to control
  • Racing thoughts that interfere with sleep
  • Physical symptoms: chest tightness, fatigue, GI upset
  • Avoidance of situations that used to feel fine
  • Panic attacks or sudden intense fear
  • Difficulty concentrating or feeling on edge
WHEN TO CONSIDER GETTING HELP

You do not need a crisis to seek psychiatric care.

One of the most common reasons people delay treatment for anxiety is the belief that it is “not bad enough.” It is worth getting evaluated if:

  • Anxiety has lasted longer than a few weeks and is not improving on its own.
  • You are avoiding work, school, social, or family commitments.
  • Sleep, appetite, or daily functioning are affected.
  • You have started using substances to manage how you feel.
  • The cost of waiting feels higher than the cost of trying treatment.
HOW WE TREAT ANXIETY

A three-part approach, tailored to you.

01

Careful evaluation

Anxiety has many forms. The first step is understanding what kind of anxiety you are dealing with and what factors are sustaining it.
02

Medication when appropriate

Modern anxiety medications are effective and often well-tolerated. We prescribe carefully, start low, and adjust based on how you respond.
03

Whole-person support

Sleep, movement, caffeine, alcohol, and daily routines all influence anxiety. We work with all of it, alongside any therapy you are pursuing.
COMMON QUESTIONS

About anxiety treatment.

Will I have to take medication forever?
Not necessarily. Many people use medication for a season, find their footing, and successfully taper off with our guidance. Others find sustained medication helpful long-term. We make that decision together, based on what is actually working for you.
It depends on the medication. The most commonly prescribed anxiety medications today (SSRIs, SNRIs) are not addictive. Some older benzodiazepines can be habit-forming and are prescribed cautiously. We will always explain what we are recommending and why.
Often, yes – particularly for anxiety. The combination of medication plus therapy outperforms either one alone for most people. We can help you find a therapist whose approach fits your situation.
It varies. Some patients notice changes within 2 to 4 weeks. Others need 6 to 8 weeks for a medication to reach its full effect. We follow up closely during this window so we can adjust if needed rather than wait.
Yes. “Treatment-resistant” anxiety often just means the previous approach was not the right fit. A fresh evaluation, sometimes with a different class of medication and different supports, frequently makes the difference.
